Briefly describe your project idea including your role and any project partners.

To revitalize the Village Park mural and landscaping to create a space that is more inclusive of the Village of Farwell’s history. Through collaboration with the local community school art program, the Village will create a space that is reflective of a more inclusive history.

How do you plan to spend the $5,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.

Mural refurbishing, inviting landscaping, and art supplies.

Will your project require special permits from the community you are in? For example, anything that requires a street closure or installing a permanent art piece will likely require a special permit from your local governing body or zoning board. If your project is funded, the MML Foundation is happy to help you navigate that process. Please note that all applicants must obtain any necessary permits for their projects, if selected for funding.

No

Rachel’s Notes about the Project

Reviewed 4.24.23. Confirmed member status. Confirmed LOS. Confirmed photos. Confirmed businesses exist and are downtown. Couldn’t confirm artist but did confirm that she’s a teacher. If the park is Littlefield Park then location is viable.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

Why does your community need this project?

The Village needs to create spaces in the downtown corridor that will entice people from the community to learn about the Village’s history. Making a better and more inclusive space for the mural will serve as a place maker of sorts to the downtown corridor.

How will you engage your community in this project?

Community input will be important during this project. The Village plans on working with the local youth to help create this space. The Village also plans on asking for input from the community in regard to what they feel are important aspects of the Village’s history to include in this project.

What do you hope to achieve through this project?

To create a more inclusive historical rendering of how the Village of Farwell was founded, but also to include how we see ourselves moving forward. To create a space that is inviting and rich for the community to engage with.

How will the project celebrate the community’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.

There will be input from all areas of the community and community members to reflect who the Village really is.

What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more. Please approximate the in-kind value if possible.

Time, expertise, and partnering.
