Briefly describe your project idea:
Name of the project is From Page to Stage! The Brighton Arts and Council Commission in Brighton would like to offer a children’s series at the Brighton Amphitheater (The AMP) in the downtown area.
How will you be involved in this project? Who will you worth with?
The play that was chosen from a book is Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. Lilly is playwright Kevin Kling’s adaptation of Caldecott-winner Kevin Henkes’ books. Lilly is an exuberant young mouse facing all-too-familiar issues at home and in school. Although she courageously stands up to bullies and delights in teaching her friends to spell backwards, Lilly still needs to learn important lessons about family, friendship, and forgiveness. Through clever dialogue, fast-paced scenes, and realistic characters, the playwright creates an entertaining and insightful tale. Children will have the opportunity to write a letter to Lilly and her friends. From all the letters received, three lucky winners will be selected to receive a copy of Kevin Henkes’ book. Also before the free performance for the community,we will offer children ages 6-12 a free painting class held at A Wilde Theatre located in downtown Brighton. This one-hour class will be free for up to 40 children that would like to paint a picture of Lilly on a canvas.
Describe the artist’s or artists’ work. This is not about credentials—what do they do as an artist?
Lynn has been directing theatre for over 30 years. I have directed both children and adults plays. Both musicals and non-musicals. I have also work at two local professional theatre companies.

Why does your community need this project?
Brighton hasn’t had a theatre, let alone a children’s theatre program for over 4 years. This play is for the entire family entertaining both children and adults alike! It would be a great way to bring the arts to downtown Brighton.
What do you hope to achieve through this project?
We are hoping that this project and other projects like this will spark more interest in the arts as a whole in downtown Brighton. From live theatre, painting, and art exhibitions. We want to continue to offer opportunities to children, because they will be the ones to keep the arts alive for years to come.
How do you plan to spend the $5,000 microgrant?

What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more. Please approximate the in-kind value if possible.
I have meet and will be working with several downtown businesses for donations of books, props and the coloring pages. All my actors are working for a stipend (since this is only for one production). The city is letting us use the performance space for free. The in-kind value is around $3,000
Will your project require special permits from the community you are in? For example, anything that requires a street closure or installing a permanent art piece will likely require a special permit from your local governing body or zoning board. If your project is funded, the MML Foundation is happy to help you navigate that process. Please note that all applicants must obtain any necessary permits for their projects, if selected for funding. *
No
