Why does your community need this project?

Eaton Rapids currently has segregated community centers for seniors and teens and depending on your faith, 2 churches. This leaves the rest of the community with no good way to reach across these deep rooted borders. A second need in the community is outdoor activities that are accessible to all people with different abilities. The third need is to bring local pride and heritage to our town through education.

What do you hope to achieve through this project?

The hope is to bridge the gaps in community segregation by highlighting and celebrating our diversity. Community members will need to rely on each other for answers to the clues. With the local education of our community this project will followed by town pride. Also making public art in town will bring color and innovation.

How do you plan to spend the $5,000 microgrant?

The funds will be used for creating art as clues in a history treasure hunt. Material needed will be mural paint, display cabinets, website creation, permits, collector coin for a prize, and rental equipment such as scissor lifts and cranes. Also future maintenance of art project.

What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more. Please approximate the in-kind value if possible.

Eaton Rapids has local volunteers for planning along with the city’s park and recreation department ($800). The city will also provide construction equipment and assistance with and cordoning and temporary closing of roads ($1500). The art space will be donated by local business and city ($1200).

Will your project require special permits from the community you are in? For example, anything that requires a street closure or installing a permanent art piece will likely require a special permit from your local governing body or zoning board. If your project is funded, the MML Foundation is happy to help you navigate that process. Please note that all applicants must obtain any necessary permits for their projects, if selected for funding. *
