ABOUT THE PROJECT
Where will your project take place? (please include city/village too)
Bad Axe, MI
Anticipated project launch date
August 1, 2023
Briefly describe your project idea including your role and any project partners.
I would love to set up an “Art Library” or small “Community Art Center” within my space, where people can come in at set times and use our space to create their very own pages in an art journal. We would provide the blank art journals and art supplies. Available to all. No art experience necessary.
How do you plan to spend the $5,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.
Funds would be used to purchase art supplies of all kinds and blank sketchbooks. They would be used for marketing the project to the community. and hosting a mini “art show” to showcase the artwork of the community.
Will your project require special permits from the community you are in? For example, anything that requires a street closure or installing a permanent art piece will likely require a special permit from your local governing body or zoning board. If your project is funded, the MML Foundation is happy to help you navigate that process. Please note that all applicants must obtain any necessary permits for their projects, if selected for funding.
No
Rachel’s Notes about the Project
Reviewed 4.20.23. Confirmed member status. Confirmed LOS. Confirmed business locations. Confirmed artist; unclear if paid but she is the applicant too. Question for the jury: is it okay that the artist and business owner are the same person? how does that impact the partnership score if at all? Follow up info as requested by an internal juror:
“The art journals will stay on display for the community to enjoy. We will have a section of completed books and a section of books that are in progress that the community can add their pages of art to. The community does not get to take the books home. They will stay in the studio’s ” Community Art Library” for the public to enjoy during regular business hours. Once we get enough completed books I would love to host an open house to showcase the beautiful artwork of the community as a collective.”
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Why does your community need this project?
Art is a wonderful form of stress relief. Bringing people together to create together and collectively will build a sense of unifying community.
How will you engage your community in this project?
We will open our doors at different times every week allowing all to participate. We will post the progress on social media. Create different themes every week to help guide the artwork.
What do you hope to achieve through this project?
Bringing the artist out in everyone. Even those who don’t believe they have a creative bone in their body. Bringing people together as a community to create in a stress free way.
How will the project celebrate the community’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.
Anyone can participate regardless of ability. No one will be left out.
What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more. Please approximate the in-kind value if possible.
I have the time, the venue, the support of other local businesses and the city government. I am an artist and have experience in teaching others.
