ABOUT THE PROJECT
Where will your project take place? (please include city/village too)
Village of Three Oaks
Anticipated project launch date
August 31, 2023
Briefly describe your project idea including your role and any project partners.
A large mural depicting the history of the Village of Three Oaks. I would have a very limited role of helping to decide on the final design.
How do you plan to spend the $5,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.
The money will be spent strictly on the artist hired to paint the mural.
Will your project require special permits from the community you are in? For example, anything that requires a street closure or installing a permanent art piece will likely require a special permit from your local governing body or zoning board. If your project is funded, the MML Foundation is happy to help you navigate that process. Please note that all applicants must obtain any necessary permits for their projects, if selected for funding.
No

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY
Why does your community need this project?
This project would brighten a walking path that connects a smaller street to the main downtown district.
How will you engage your community in this project?
We will encourage local merchants and residents to submit their ideas for focal points of the mural.
What do you hope to achieve through this project?
A local business that draws many visitors is located off of the main street in the downtown business district. The hope is to provide an appealing, beautiful corridor that encourages people to visit the downtown area and people just coming to the downtown area to visit the local business on the smaller street. Bridging the two streets together. Placing a mural in a public space that is easily accessible to people from different backgrounds can serve as a visual representation of inclusivity and diversity in the community. It can also create a sense of ownership and pride among community members, fostering a welcoming and accepting environment for people of all cultures.
How will the project celebrate the community’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.
A mural can incorporate themes and symbols that are significant to the village. This can include motifs, patterns, or imagery that are specific to certain village traditions, such as symbols or iconic landmarks. By including these elements, the mural can pay homage to diverse socio-economic statuses and encourage appreciation and understanding of different abilities and cultures.
What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more. Please approximate the in-kind value if possible.
We already have the space and we will happily provide any goods and/or materials (matching funds) needed to bring the mural to fruition.
