Describe your project idea including: a) Is it a project or event? b) What will you do? c) Where will you do it? d) Who, if any, are your project partners?
The project is to take our existing garden space that we own and revamp it into a gathering place. Currently there are 12 individual plots, and the goal is to remove those plots and make the whole garden for everyone.
How will you engage your community in this project?
We are creating a Wednesday evening “Growing Group.” We will launch in late September after harvesting and prepare the land for next Spring. Additionally, the project will be announced in our newsletter and on social media.
How will the project celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.
The project will reflect at the core of humanity, that we all need people and we all need food. The space will allow for an organic flow of people and conversation, and food items. We’d also like to create a pebble path so it is ADA accessible.
How do you plan to spend the $1,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.
We plan to gather fruit trees, berry bushes, herbs and other food items along with some perennials, mulch and dirt (approximately $200). Pebble path ($580) . Steel bench at $220.
Will your project require special permits?
No
Are you the owner of the property where the project/event will occur?
Rachel’s Notes
Reviewed 4.21.23. Confirmed member status. Confirmed organization exists, is non profit, is neighborhood specific. They own the property so no letter of support needed.

ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD’S NEEDS
Why does your neighborhood need this project?
Our neighborhood is diverse and we need a common meeting ground. We also need to draw on each other’s skills. Furthermore, the more we know our neighbors, the safer and more uplifting our community will be.
What do you hope to achieve through this project? Be as specific as possible!
By enhancing the Community Garden area and making it open to all, the goal is to create a more positive impact on the neighborhood. A place we want to go gather. A place we are proud of. A place we can feel safe.
What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more.
We have the full support of the board and Block Connectors. We already own this land. We have a shed with tools. We have green thumbs in the neighborhood Community Garden has been going on for over 5 years. We will receive a matching grant from the city if we were are able to reach our fundraising benchmarks.
