This is our 3rd annual event which brings out many within our community. Last year we had over 100 vendors, artists, food trucks, information booths, kids programs, and music. This is our way of opening up to the business district, churches, and neighbors to host a fun full day. Last year we had approximately 1,200 in attendance. Our mayor and city council strongly supported this event and encouraged us to make this a yearly event.
How will you engage your community in this project?
We are reaching out to area artists of all kinds whether they paint, make jewelry, sew, or any other type of product they wish to promote. Many of our local businesses are small business-owned and are a part of our community.
How will the project celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.
Our entire neighborhood is a hugely diverse area. We have neighbors from all cultures, we have several refugee centers for different cultures and diverse age groups.
How do you plan to spend the $1,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.
The advertising banners will cost approximately $1,000 These banners are placed in high-traffic areas. We did this last year and many said they appreciated the appearance.

ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD’S NEEDS
Why does your neighborhood need this project?
The Eastside Neighborhood Org will be celebrating our 50th anniversary this year. Our celebration brings many from all over and this piece of advertising helps us promote the event and showcase our very large neighborhood. Our neighborhood boundaries cover approximately 1/4 of our city.
What do you hope to achieve through this project? Be as specific as possible!
This is our 3rd year and it keeps growing. We have heard from many throughout our city that they are looking forward to the event. Each year we have increased participation and attendance and this year is no different. We are looking at possibly getting a major headliner to play. It is so nice to have so many different families, cultures, etc come together and enjoy a fun full day of enjoyment.
What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more.
We have a commitment from so many participants. Several local sponsors such as BWL, CATA, and several others help with expenses. This event will be on August 26, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. This event is special in all the wonderful and talented individuals we are showcasing. It is amazing the talent we have here in Lansing. Our Lansing Police and Fire Dept has also played a huge positive role in our event, Sparrow Hospital and many other businesses help to bring this together by sharing helpful information that improves life within our community.
