Describe your project idea including: a) Is it a project or event? b) What will you do? c) Where will you do it? d) Who, if any, are your project partners?
Art in the Garden is an art exhibition that highlights diverse voices in the Detroit metro area with an intent to support and provide local artists with an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work while also giving the community access and exposure to various forms of art in the city of Detroit.
How will you engage your community in this project?
The community will have the opportunity to submit their work to be a chosen participant as well as attend the event.
How will the project celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.
The project will celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity by showcasing the works of artists who look like them and come from the same neighborhoods as them. It will also celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity by allowing everyone from the community to attend the event and commune with each other and others from outside the community regardless of age, race, and culture. Everyone is welcome.
How do you plan to spend the $1,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.
I plan to use the microgrant for the following: To print out fliers for the event to pass out to the neighborhood, to print out signs for the event, such as name cards for the artists and a banner for the gardens entrance. The money will also be used to pay for digital advertisment on facebook, instagram, and Metrotimes. The money will also be used to pay for food vendors in order to provide food and drinks for guests and a photographer to capture the event. Lastly the money will be used to provide the artists with a gift bag that will include art supplies for their future endeavors.
Will your project require special permits?
No
Are you the owner of the property where the project/event will occur?
Rachel’s Notes
Reviewed on 4.11.23. Confirmed member status. Confirmed organization exists (no website, FB). Address: Griffin Gardens is located at 19400 Bentler Detroit, Michigan. Does seem to be in a neighborhood. Not a non profit but appears to be trying to be one. Doesn’t appear to be charging for the event, would be good to confirm that. Existing event, set date.
ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD’S NEEDS
Why does your neighborhood need this project?
My neighborhood needs this project to provide them with exposure to events that may otherwise be off limits or unheard of for some. Often times art programs are only acessible for more wealthier neighborhood but the arts should be available to everyone no matter where you are from.
What do you hope to achieve through this project? Be as specific as possible!
I hope to provide artists with opportunities to exhibit and sale their work and I hope to expose artists to the art scene in order to build their confidence by being in a space where they can practice articulating their art to the public. I also hope to expose the community to events such as this as well as art that they can purchase for their homes. Lastly I hope to inspire the youth in the community to become artists because they were able to see artists that look just like them.
What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more.
The resources that I already have is the location, the time, and a co-planner who is also acting as curator of the event and that is it. Everything else will be supplied by myself or the artists themselves.
