ABOUT THE PROJECT

Village of North Adams

Anticipated project launch date

September 11, 2023

Describe your project idea including: a) Is it a project or event? b) What will you do? c) Where will you do it? d) Who, if any, are your project partners?

For this project I would like to install permanent corn hole boards in our local park. The Village council is onboard with said idea.

How will you engage your community in this project?

My plan is to have the local school, North Adams-Jerome Public school, design and paint the corn hole boards. My thought is to have the kindergarten class paint one board and the senior paint the other to create a type of capstone project. This is a good way to tie our local schools into the community.

How will the project celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.

North Adams is a very small and rural community. Our park is very limited and I believe that the permanent corn hole boards will be a nice addition that includes every age group. Currently our park is mostly geared towards younger children. the corn hole boards will be a nice attraction for young adults and adults as well.

How do you plan to spend the $1,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.

The $1000 will be used to purchase the corn hole boards, help supply paint to the art program, and then help towards the installation of the boards at the park.

Will your project require special permits?

No

Are you the owner of the property where the project/event will occur?

No Please provide a letter of support from the owner of that property.

Rachel’s Notes

Reviewed on 4.13.23. Confirmed member status. Individual appears to live in the community, has council on board. Not in a neighborhood but this rural community may not have many (or any) neighborhoods.

ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD’S NEEDS

Why does your neighborhood need this project?

As previously state we have a very rural community without a lot of funding. Many children utilize our park and it is in need of some new equipment and new attraction for the children and the adults that accompany the children.

What do you hope to achieve through this project? Be as specific as possible!

I would love to see more community engagement at our park as well ad tying the school into our community some more.

What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more.

I already have approval from the village council for this idea, as well as several contacts within the school to help make this possible. The village will help with the installation, and I have support from a retired art teacher to help over see the plans.
