Describe your project idea including: a) Is it a project or event? b) What will you do? c) Where will you do it? d) Who, if any, are your project partners?
I’m collaborating with several Native American rappers, djs, and performers. We are planning to create a Tribal Youth Healing Arts event that allows the teens to work directly with the musicians to learn song writing, poetry, dance. & Cultural connectedness to incorporate into their music or craft. At the end, Tribal Youth will perform their new art forms on stage with the Native rappers and musicians. Our hope is to empower Tribal youth to embrace their creative spirit as a form of resilience.
How will you engage your community in this project?
We will be circulating flyers on social media to spread the word. We will be collaborating with local community college and Tribal college to promote the positive Tribal Youth empowerment event.
How will the project celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.
We will include all people in This event. Our whole goal is to celebrate the diversity in our youth, and give them strength and a sense of belonging and community via connecting to their cultural, creative spirit through music, dancing and art.
How do you plan to spend the $1,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.
My plan is to use the $1000 to help with event coordination, fees for using a local community space, art materials, any and all supplies we will need to give to the Tribal Youth for being involved in this hands on Creative Heading Arts event. Art supplies: paints, paintbrushes drawing materials, sketch pads, markers.
Will your project require special permits?
No
Are you the owner of the property where the project/event will occur?
Rachel’s Notes
Reviewed 4.17.23. Confirmed member status. Unclear location; looks like Mt. Pleasant. Not neighborhood, more regional. Jury question: how do you judge a tribal neighborhood? http://www.sagchip.org/
ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD’S NEEDS
Why does your neighborhood need this project?
The Tribal youth at the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe are facing serious mental health challenges, & have been dealing with a great deal of loss, grief from losing family members to suicide or overdose,& generational trauma. Our youth need a healthy outlet that strengthens their spirits.
What do you hope to achieve through this project? Be as specific as possible!
Our hope is to connect Youth with Positive and empowering adults who are skilled in the area of art, dance, music and culture. We want to empower the youth to develop healthy positive coping skills through Healing Arts and performance.
What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more.
Time, collaboration with Native Rappers, Musicians, Djs, storytellers, and collaborating with the Tribal College to host a space where we can set up our event for the Tribal Youth.
