In the past we have donated backpacks to the three local elementary schools in our area. This year we are adding a block party in August to our calendar of events. At this block party, it is our hope, to present backpacks to our elementary school students in GMCA. With the remainder of backpacks to go to the local three public elementary schools. The backpacks will have school supplies inside.
How will you engage your community in this project?
It is our hope to gather a large group of GMCA residents to the block party who will also donate supplies to the backpacks.
How will the project celebrate the neighborhood’s diversity? Diversity can include different ages, races, cultures, socio-economic statuses, abilities, and more.
Our neighborhood in a mix bag of ages, cultures and races. This is an opportunity to help others and get to know each other and celebrate together.
How do you plan to spend the $1,000 microgrant? Please list and explain the items, services, fees, expertise, etc. that you plan to purchase.
Order backpacks and approved list of school supplies.

ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD’S NEEDS
Why does your neighborhood need this project?
We have 506 homes in our civic association. This will give the young residences something to look forward to as they start or return to school. This project also will ease the back-to-school supplies burden for parents/guardians.
What do you hope to achieve through this project? Be as specific as possible!
Bring our community together. Celebrate our youth and get to know each other better. Teach our kids that they matter, and their success is important to us as a neighborhood.
What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more.
The civic association has the funds for the block party. We need funds for the backpacks and supplies to go in the backpacks. We have successfully donated backpacks to the schools in the past. We no longer have the same funding and are in search of new funding.
Towards the end of this school year, we plan to request a wish list for backpack supplies for kindergarteners from the schools (Hillcrest, Highview and Kinloch). Order the backpacks online from bluschoolsupplies.com.
