Rachel’s Notes

Reviewed 4.24.24. Confirmed member status. Confirmed Jackson Hill neighborhood. Confirmed photos. Cannot confirm non-profit. Kinda hard to confirm location/community center. Lot spruce up/eventual garden. Follow up email info as requested by internal juror:
– Our goal is to educate the community through mini courses by avid gardeners within the neighborhood. It will encourage healthier lifestyles by regular exercise. It creates an opportunity to relieve stress by “slowing down” and connecting with nature. A common place to talk with like-minded individuals to foster new relationships.

– We plan on mostly vegetables like collards, turnips, corn, green beans, tomatoes, okra, etc. Different types of fruit trees are in the planning also.

-Our mission is to give to the ones that are in need! Donations are encouraged but not required. We are hoping to start a neighborhood garden club to help support gardens in the homeowners backyards. Thru this effort, neighbors will share and connect.

ABOUT YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD’S NEEDS

Why does your neighborhood need this project?

We have a lot of vacant lot areas that can be assets in the community by using them as they where used in the past years.

What do you hope to achieve through this project? Be as specific as possible!

We hope to first clean up a vacant lot and make it of some use! Additionally, we hope that the garden will help with connecting the neighbors for a meeting spot for future events and activities.

What resources do you already have to make this project successful? Resources could include things like time, partners, expertise, donated goods/materials/space, matching funds, and more.

Neighborhood members will volunteer to seed, water, and care for it to harvest time. It’s going to impact the community thru better health and wellness. Several community associations are committed to supplying additional funding to maintenance and sustain it. Additionally there are also local corporations, local governmental, local nonprofits, schools systems, colleges and community churches partners that are involved to offer additional support.
