What is MI Water Navigator?
MI Water Navigator is a resource for navigating Michigan water infrastructure funding opportunities. Whether you are a public municipal water system or a private water utility, MI Water Navigator will provide direction in your search for state and federal funding.
This resource is provided by the Michigan Municipal League Foundation and is funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, and the Masco Foundation.
What We Do
Our Helpdesk technical assistance team provides free individual advising across a range of state and federal funding applications. One-on-one consulting helps our team and your community to assess, identify, and apply for funding opportunities that best suit your community’s unique needs.
Assess: Each individual consultation is tailored to assess your community’s needs.
Identify: We help your community identify the programs best suited for you.
Apply: We provide the guidance needed for you to submit applications.
We are committed to helping Michigan communities leverage state and federal funding, especially those communities that need it most. In an effort to increase equitable access to funding opportunities, overburdened/disadvantaged communities are eligible to receive continued free technical assistance through the entire application process. Schedule a meeting with our Helpdesk team to see if your community qualifies.

Partner Programs
In partnership with the MML Foundation and other organizations, the Environmental Policy Innovation Center’s (EPIC) Funding Navigator team helps utilities that serve overburdened/disadvantaged communities seek and secure public funds for water infrastructure. The goal is to ensure more communities benefit from critical investments in safe and climate-resilient drinking water, wastewater treatment, and stormwater management. The Navigator is part of EPIC’s broader work to advance innovative policies that provide equitable access to safe, reliable, and affordable water for communities and nature to thrive.
Communities that work with EPIC’s Funding Navigator team will gain access to resources that support the pre-development work necessary to submit applications to public funding programs. The Navigator team will connect utilities and communities with technical assistance and professional service providers and provide seed funds to diagnose problems, develop projects that are community centered and financially and environmentally sustainable, and apply for funds. We will also provide grants to community based organizations to build capacity to engage in water infrastructure decisions and project planning.
