Earlier this week, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the Care for MI Drinking Water tool. This new tool expands MDHHS resources for individuals to test and track their drinking water quality beyond private wells to also include those on public and private water systems. The easy to navigate Care for MI Drinking Water tool includes a wide array of resources from educational materials for adults and children alike to water quality testing. These resources can positively impact public health by equipping individuals to ensure the safety of their drinking water and by bringing communities together to protect shared water sources – whether that water comes from the ground, the Great Lakes, or other surface water sources.

This tool is an important step toward increasing transparency about our water systems and toward fostering a deeper sense of trust between Michiganders and their water utilities. The Care for MI Water Tool empowers Michiganders to take ownership of their drinking water by deepening our understanding of how our systems work, what’s in our water, and how to be better stewards of our precious freshwater resources.
